Description

The AquaStar 18MF101 18-Inch Square MoFlow Suction Outlet Cover and Frame Assembly provides a large anti-entrapment drain-cover system for compatible concrete swimming pools and spas. The assembly combines one square mud frame with four individually removable 9-inch-square MoFlow covers.

The four-cover arrangement distributes suction across an approximately 147.1-square-inch combined opening area. This broad footprint helps reduce concentrated suction while accommodating the circulation requirements of larger residential and commercial pool systems.

AquaStar’s published legacy specifications rate the assembly for floor installations at up to 293 GPM, corresponding to an opening velocity of approximately 0.6 feet per second. The product is not rated for wall installation under the cited configuration.

The published flow calculations also identify approximately 458.5 GPM at an opening velocity of 1 foot per second and 687.7 GPM at 1.5 feet per second. These velocity-based figures do not replace the certified SOFA flow rating applicable to the specific installation and manufacturing date.

A compliant sump must provide a minimum depth of 6 inches. The actual permitted system flow depends on the sump geometry, suction-pipe configuration, installation orientation and certification documentation supplied with the specific assembly.

Each removable MoFlow cover attaches to the frame using four corrosion-resistant screws. The package contains sixteen manufacturer-specified 316 stainless-steel fasteners, allowing all four covers to be secured independently.

The assembly can replace compatible standard AquaStar 18-inch-square frames and certain Pentair window-grid assemblies with an approximately 3/4-inch-deep existing frame, four 9-inch-square cover openings and the correct mounting pattern. Measurements and frame condition must be verified before installation.

The cover and frame components are manufactured from UV-resistant engineered polymer designed for prolonged exposure to sunlight, treated pool water and outdoor environments. The white finish coordinates with many plaster, quartz, aggregate and other light-colored pool surfaces.

This drain-cover assembly is a critical life-safety component. It must be installed according to the AquaStar instructions, certification documents applicable to its manufacturing date, VGBA requirements, local codes and the pool or spa hydraulic design.

AquaStar specifies replacement no later than five years after installation, or sooner if any cover becomes cracked, warped, brittle, loose, discolored or otherwise damaged.

AquaStar currently identifies the 18MF series as discontinued and no longer manufactured. Existing inventory may remain available, but the manufacturing date molded into the components and all packaged compliance documentation must be reviewed before installation.
