Description

The AquaStar R8MF101 8-Inch Round Retrofit MoFlow Suction Outlet Cover provides a flexible anti-entrapment replacement solution for many existing concrete pool and spa drain frames that are not compatible with the standard AquaStar 8MF cover.

This product is a retrofit cover and hardware kit rather than a complete new-construction drain assembly. It does not include a mud frame or manufactured sump. The existing drain frame, sump and suction plumbing must already be installed, structurally sound and compatible with the approved retrofit configuration.

AquaStar designed the R8MF series to fit a broad range of existing 8-inch drain frames and sumps. Published compatibility references include AquaStar R-series frames, Alloy Brass Foundry, Afras, Splash, Sta-Rite, SwimQuip, Caretaker, Polaris, Advanced Pool Products, Hayward and select Custom Molded Products configurations.

The kit includes multiple sets of stainless-steel mounting screws and retrofit adapters or bushings. These components allow the cover to accommodate several approved mounting patterns without drilling or modifying the cover.

The MoFlow design distributes suction across an approximately 16.1-square-inch opening area. Published specifications list a maximum floor flow of 146 GPM at approximately 2.9 feet per second and a maximum wall flow of 130 GPM at approximately 2.6 feet per second.

The same opening area corresponds to approximately 75.3 GPM at an opening velocity of 1.5 feet per second and approximately 50.2 GPM at 1 foot per second. These velocity-based values do not replace the certified maximum flow rating applicable to the complete installed assembly.

The existing sump must provide a minimum depth of 3 inches and must comply with the hydraulic geometry required by the applicable AquaStar documentation. Pipe size, suction layout, installation orientation and system flow must also be verified before installation.

The replacement cover is manufactured from UV-resistant engineered polymer for prolonged exposure to sunlight, treated pool water and outdoor conditions. Manufacturer-specified 316 stainless-steel screws provide corrosion-resistant attachment in wet aquatic environments.

The white finish coordinates with plaster, quartz, aggregate and other light-colored pool finishes. AquaStar also offered related retrofit covers in gray and other colors.

A replacement cover cannot correct a cracked frame, stripped mounting holes, damaged sump, insufficient sump depth or unsafe plumbing configuration. The complete existing suction outlet must be inspected before the new cover is installed.

The suction outlet cover is a critical life-safety component. It must be installed according to AquaStar instructions, certification documents applicable to its manufacturing date, VGBA requirements, local codes and the pool or spa hydraulic design.

AquaStar specifies replacement no later than five years after installation, or sooner if the cover becomes cracked, warped, brittle, loose, discolored or otherwise damaged.
