Description

The AquaStar WAV18WR101 18-Inch Square Wave Suction Outlet Assembly provides a large anti-entrapment drain-cover system for compatible concrete swimming pools and spas.

The complete assembly combines one 18-inch-square mud frame with four individually removable 9 x 9-inch Wave covers and four vented riser rings arranged in a two-by-two grid.

Its four-cover configuration distributes suction across a combined opening area of approximately 176.8 square inches. This broad surface helps reduce concentrated suction while supporting the circulation needs of residential, commercial and institutional aquatic facilities.

Published legacy specifications list maximum floor and wall flow rates of 628 GPM at an opening velocity of approximately 1.1 feet per second.

The same opening area corresponds to approximately 826.6 GPM at an opening velocity of 1.5 feet per second and approximately 551.1 GPM at 1 foot per second.

These velocity-based and legacy values do not automatically apply to every physical assembly. The installer must identify the manufacturing date molded into the covers and use the applicable AquaStar Certificate of Conformity, installation instructions and SOFA-specific flow rating.

The complete assembly requires a compliant sump with a published minimum depth of 6 inches. The sump geometry, suction-pipe arrangement, installation orientation and system flow must satisfy the documentation applicable to the physical product.

Each Wave cover installs over its own vented riser ring. The rings maintain the required elevation and open flow path between the covers, mud frame and permanent sump.

The supplied mud frame supports compatible new concrete pool and spa construction. It establishes the four mounting areas and positions the finished covers at the proper elevation relative to the surrounding plaster, quartz, pebble or aggregate finish.

The assembly can also retrofit many standard 18-inch-square two-by-two window-grid drain frames. Compatible frames typically contain four 9-inch-square openings, measure approximately 3/4 inch deep and use an approximately 8-1/4-inch center-to-center screw pattern for each cover.

AquaStar specifically documents compatibility with its standard 18-inch frames and certain Pentair window-grid frames. Every existing frame must be physically measured and inspected rather than selected by appearance alone.

Each of the four covers uses four mounting screws. The complete assembly therefore requires sixteen manufacturer-specified number 10 x 1-3/4-inch 316 stainless-steel screws.

Every screw and mounting point must be present and structurally sound. Missing screws, stripped threads, cracked frames or damaged riser rings can prevent the covers from remaining securely attached.

The covers, vented riser rings and mud frame are manufactured from UV-resistant engineered polymer for prolonged exposure to sunlight, treated pool water and outdoor aquatic environments.

The white finish coordinates with plaster, quartz, pebble and other light-colored pool surfaces. AquaStar also manufactured related Wave assemblies in other colors.

The product may be used in single- or multiple-outlet systems when the complete hydraulic design and applicable certification permit that use.

Replacing the visible covers cannot correct an unsafe sump, deteriorated frame, undersized plumbing or noncompliant hydraulic system. The complete suction outlet must be evaluated before installation.

AquaStar specifies that suction outlet covers be replaced no later than five years after installation, or sooner if any cover becomes cracked, warped, brittle, loose, discolored or otherwise damaged.

The WAV18WR series is discontinued. Existing inventory may remain available, but the physical covers, riser rings, hardware, manufacturing dates and compliance documents should be verified before installation.
